 Approach Information:

FR arrivals into SLI need to be vigilant because of heavy VFR & student traffic into Long Beach, Fullerton and John Wayne (Orange County/Santa Ana). To facilitate the flow of traffic and assist in noise abatement, we have several VFR - Copter Arrival Routes. In all cases and on all routes we ask that you assume a flight profile that reduces noise and avoids the over flight of houses. Deviations for WX and Traffic are the exception to our "fly neighborly" program.

TRAFFIC PATTERN - RWY 22 is usually in use, but on some mornings or during Santa Anna conditions you may find RWY 04 being used. Be aware that our rotor wing traffic pattern is VERY TIGHT. We're sorry about   this, but over the years some leases were not renewed and military housing was converted to civilian use. So please don't over fly our neighbors.

KATELLA ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE  -- 1500ft MSL in & out. In @ 1500'msl -- start at Anaheim Stadium and continues just before the airport (Valley View & Katella). If RWY 04 is in use enter right traffic along the edge of the golf course. If 22 is being used simply do a steep (noise abatement) approach.

South (SHORELINE) Arrival and Departure -- 700ft MSL out & 1000ft MSL in this one is getting tighter by the day. Yes, another lease lost and more golf courses and homes built. If you desire to arrive or depart along the beach you'll be using the "SOUTH" route. The inbound route begins at the Anaheim Bay Breakwater and follows the train tracks along the northern edge of Seal Beach Weapons Station, crossing the 405 FWY at the new golf course southwest of the 605 FWY. Just follow the empty area in @ 1000MSL or outbound @ 700MSL and do not overfly any homes. Coming in for RWY 22 you'll join the pattern on the downwind where you'll descend to 700ft. If you are going out simply climb to 700MSL to avoid inbound traffic. ALSO NOTE that the LGB arrival is over the top of this route (near Becca NDB) and you'll find most AC coming in from the south at about 1600ft.

Garden Grove 22FWY (LAKE IRVINE) Arrival and Departure -- 3500ft MSL out This departure route requires a clearance through John Wayne's Class C. If you tell TWR that you'd like a "GardenGrove" (Lake Irvine) departure, they'll get you a squawk and a release. At the departure end exit at the golf course, turn left on the 405 FWY and frequency change to SoCal 126.45 before the 22 FWY & 405 FWY split. Then the route continues down the 22 FWY and releases at Lake Irvine. Most times you'll need to quickly climb to 3500MSL to get cleared direct without vectors.

North (TRACKS) Arrival and Departure -- 1500ft MSL out & in This Arrival / Departure is now just called "North" because the tracks have been dug up (removed). You can still see the linear future where they used to be, which should be directly under you. This Arr/Dep will either take you to the LGB EAST Wardlow Transition or up the 605 FWY out to the 91 FWY.
