These positions are located in Joint Forces Headquarters, CANG in Sacramento, CA. The purpose of these positions are to inquire into and periodically report to the Adjutant General on the training, readiness, discipline, efficiency, economy and morale of military and civilian personnel, equipment, and associated management systems within the command. These positions include performance of the following functions: teaching and training, assistance, investigations and inspections.
The officer will serve as a detailed inspector general who performs the duties as the Chief, Assistance & Investigations Branch or Chief, Inspections Branch, Office of the Inspector General, California National Guard. Supervises, receives, analyzes, resolves and responds to requests for assistance from Army and Air Guard members and civilian employees. Conducts investigative inquiries and investigations into allegations of misconduct, violations of policy, regulation or law as directed by the Adjutant General. Keeps the Inspector General and the Adjutant General informed on the status of IG cases and the identification of systemic issues, making recommendations on courses of action. Conducts general, special or follow-up inspector general inspections (IGI) as directed by the Adjutant General. Determines root causes of systemic problems, develops solutions and recommends assignment of responsibility to the Adjutant General to correct. Serves as the proponent for Organizational Inspection Program (OIP) policy. Conducts sensing sessions as needed. Conducts inquiries and monitors the Intelligence Oversight program (IO), Internal Control Program(ICP), Force Protection(FP), Anti-terrorism(AT), contacting, environmental and quality control (EQC).

Receive and process requests for assistance, conduct IG inquiries, assist detailed IGs in conducting IG investigations, IG inspections and performing administrative duties. Assistant IGs assist detailed IGs in the conduct of inspections and investigations by being a member of an inspection/investigation team led by the detailed IG, or by leading an inspection team which is under the detailed IGs supervision. Performs preliminary analysis of issues and determines best approach to solve problems. Analyzes systemic issues and determines root causes. Communicates clearly and professionally when dealing with sensitive issues in person or over the phone. Frequently prepares and presents briefings on cases orally to senior leaders. Demonstrates courage of conviction and ability to interact with senior leaders. Prepares correspondence on a daily basis for an officer's signature to senior officials and higher headquarters. Displays a high standard of professionalism, military appearance, and conduct. Travels on occasional overnight TDY to conduct investigations, inspections, or assistance visits.
