What is the California Cadet Corps all about?
The California Cadet Corps' motto is "ESSAYONS" - a French word meaning, "Let Us Try."
The California Cadet Corps (CaCC) was established by State Statute in 1911. The statute authorizes Cadet Corps units to be a regular part of the schools for all children in the state. The development, implementation and maintenance of the units of the Cadet Corps is shared with local school authorities and the State Military Department.
The Cadet Corps is a school based education and prevention program directed toward enhanced school safety, dropout prevention and gang avoidance. It is fully integrated as part of the existing school curriculum providing specialized academic performance, and military style training addressing problematic behavior, substandard academic performance, and other at risk factors. The program stresses five objectives: support and enhance academic achievement, provide opportunities for leadership, foster good citizenship, enhance patriotism, and provide basic military knowledge.
The Cadet Corps provides leadership opportunities for Cadets by allowing them to conduct training for junior Cadets, to perform as leaders in their Cadet military units, and by demonstrating proper behavior and citizenship at their schools and in their communities.
The California Cadet Corps has served as a "National Model" for school based youth educational programs and is designed to develop the following: qualities of leadership, improved academic skills, basic knowledge of first aid, precision drill, outdoor survival and school safety, enhancement of basic educational skills (math, science and English), California pride and National patriotism, and awareness of military services (history of maintaining democracy).
