The Chaplain Candidate Program is designed to procure Reserve and National Guard chaplains to meet future mobilization requirements and provide a pool of trained chaplains from which chaplains may be selected for extended active duty. The Army Guard chaplain candidate may participate in 48 unit-training assemblies and two weeks of annual training per year receiving, at minimum, the pay and allowances of a Second Lieutenant.

To be eligible for the Chaplain Candidate Program, you must:

1.  Be a citizen of the United States or have lawfully entered the United States for permanent residence. (The National Guard accepts only U.S. citizens).

2.  Be over 18 and under 34 years of age at time of appointment. A waiver for age may be considered with prior military service.

3.  Possess a baccalaureate degree of not less than 120 semester hours from an accredited college or university listed in the Education Directory, Colleges and Universities.

4.  Be a full-time resident graduate student at a seminary or theological school that is an accredited member of the Association of Theological Schools, or accredited by regional accrediting agency or association listed in the Education Directory, Colleges and Universities.

5.  Be approved by a recognized endorsing agent.

6.  Be physically qualified.

7.  Be able to receive a favorable National Agency check.
